Last week, I hosted a gratitude journal giveaway in response to Write Block Wednesday. I’m so thankful to everyone who participated in the giveaway. The gratitude journal giveaway included: a journal, two pack Bic pens, task list pad, and a … Continue reading
I’ve always been a journal-er. I remember as a child, I used to write down my inner most thoughts in my journal or diary. I stopped journaling for a while, and started focusing on my blog. However, last year I … Continue reading
It’s time again! The Write Block Wednesdays returns for the month of April! Here are four writing prompts for you to jump kick writer’s block and write freely. This month’s theme is GRATITUDE. There’s something about spring time that makes me … Continue reading
It’s truly been a while since I’ve blogged. I created my personal Blog Planner of Awesomeness to help me stay focused and on target for Being Starkey. However, things happened that prevented my success for February. It’s truly okay because they are all a part of my Write Block Wednesday prompt of the 10 Things I Love Right Now.
I am working to improve my spiritual relationship with God. I’m participating in a spiritual boot camp. The leader LaKia Barr gave the participants some awesome tasks including creating a spiritual vision board. I consider myself to be a pro-vision boarder, but I really thought and examined my relationship with God when I created it. The boot camp has definitely helped me to see clearer and love God even more than I already do.
One of my goals on my vision board is to put me first. I can honestly say that I’ve been doing that. I started budgeting to get my hair and nails done at least once a month. I am making more time for Crystal versus everyone else. I love the woman that I am.
- Magic Lessons
Elizabeth Gilbert is completely awesome! I read Big Magic, and I was absolutely inspired to go and be creative. I was researching different podcasts and stumbled upon it. I love every episode of it. When I just need an extra boost, I tune it to an older episode and get energized.
- Daily Navigation
At the beginning of the month, I shared a part of the first chapter of my book. I received great feedback. I love it when my readers actually enjoy what I wrote. My goal is to finish Daily Navigation within the next month. I love every part of it, and I can’t wait to see the finished product.
- My Career
This past year, I’ve worked so hard to prove my spot in the big world of CES. I love my career especially program development and finding/exposing the youth in the program to new opportunities. Today, I conducted a training for a school enrichment program for a group of teachers. They loved it, and in turn so did I.
For Christmas, I decided to make some DIY easy throw pillow projects for some people. I absolutely love sewing. It helps me to relax. This simple hobby is slowly becoming a potential monetary opportunity. I am currently addicted to going into craft or fabric stores looking for new ideas and fabric styles. Stay tuned for more information on Sew Starkey.
- Grad School, well sort of
Yes, I’m back in grad school. It took a long time to find the best program that was best suited for my purpose. I love attending class and interacting with my classmates.
- Winter TV Lineup
Baby Daddy. Blackish. Here We Go Again. Born Again Virgin. I’m excited! I love watching great sitcoms.
- Girls Scout Cookies
Two Words: Thin Mints
He’s complete awesomeness! ❤ ❤ ❤

Happy Thanksgiving Friends!
Today is the day when you gather with your close friends and family, and reflect on the things or moments that you are thankful for in your life. Since I don’t live too close to my family, I normally spend Thanksgiving with my sorority sister’s family. They took me in on the holidays and special events. Instead of having dinner Thursday, my family is taking a more contemporary approach and having dinner Saturday (my sister works retail). I digress.
I wanted to share with you all 10 reasons why I’m thankful this year.
I have always had a relationship with God. However, I am building a stronger and closer relationship with Him.
My health is extremely important, and if you read my post last week then you read my challenge to lead a healthier life. Since then, I have been working on eating healthier meals, watching my portion size, removing salt from my daily diet, and finding non-traditional ways to move more (ie. pulling weeds out of my garden, creating an assembly line to stuff bags for work, and taking an extra walk around the building).
- My Family & Real Friends
My family and friends mean everything to me. They have all shaped my life to make me who I am today.
He’s just awesome that’s all!
- My Career with 4-H
I’ve been blessed with a great new career in 4-H. I’ve watched myself grow from being a bashful, list taker to a more verbal, confident person.
- Sanctuary Charlotte Church
I’ve experienced the majority of my spiritual growth this year. I’m reading and learning more about His word.
- Support System of Writers
One thing I’ve learned is that it’s important to have a support system in everything that you do. Sure, you can do it by yourself, but it helps to have a support team to cheer you on or push you just a little harder.
- A Serving Heart
I love serving and making a difference in the community. I’m extremely thankful to be able to serve effortlessly.
- Sorority Sisters
My sorority sisters, especially 7 Degrees, are a group of women willing to put their personal thoughts and feelings aside for the betterment of one cause – to enhance the quality of life in the community.
- Ability to Write
As I wrap up Daily Navigation‘s first draft, I am thankful for the ability to be able to write. Tuesday night, I met one of my favorite authors, Omar Tyree, at Cocktails & Conversation hosted by Fly T Entertainment in Charlotte. I was in total awe. He was one of the reasons why I started writing.
Now, it’s your turn. What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
P.S. This is the response to The Write Block writing prompt for yesterday.
Happy Day Before Thanksgiving! As you all remember, I re-introduced The Write Block series at the beginning of this month for my faithful NaNoWriMo or NaBloPoMo friends. I commend those who have smashed the challenge this month. I often get frustrated when I’m forced to write something, and I easily become distracted with whatever else will stimulate my mind. That’s the main reason why I created The Write Block series in the first place to develop a space for me to write without limits and share my work with likeminded individuals.
Just in case you need the rules, here you go:
Set your ideal writing mood
Using the theme, write in your journal or digital document uninterrupted for 15 minutes (Make sure you time yourself)
At the end of the 15 minutes, stop typing or put your pencil down
Read and/or share what you wrote (Remember: Sharing is optional)
Ask yourself – can you use this for a future or current project?
If so, keep it. If not, still keep it. You never know what source of inspiration will come from it.
Here’s The Write Block: Writing Prompt for this week:
What are you thankful for?
